Map of The Pit Empty
PostSubject: Map of The Pit   Map of The Pit EmptyThu May 21, 2009 5:38 pm

Reposting this 'cos everyone seems to hate it so much. This is a logical map of The Pit. Just print it out using a fixed-width font eg. corpus. Btw, there's a strange bug with BBCode where it incorrectly formats odd numbers of spaces inside code blocks - hence all the little dots.

---- cut here ----

Severn's print-out-and-keep map of The Pit...

The biggest problem with The Pit is that people get lost far too
easily when navigating the ramps. Never was a quest more aptly
named. So to fix this, below you will find a table giving a path
from each room to every other room going ONLY via the ramps.

There is often a faster route by feather-falling down to lower
ramps. However, my experience of this has shown that at least one
person ends up in the wrong place and holds the group up. Going
by the ramps is a little bit slower, but it WILL get you there.
The choice is yours.

I've included the shrine at the bottom of one of the pits
because it's something that people often try to get to and then
get hopelessly lost on the way back. I've also marked the
location of the ladder up from the lava at the bottom of the pit,
in case you have to go and rescue someone and guide them back to
the rest of the group. The ladder counts as a junction in the
paths below incidentally, so be careful with the counting when
going up the pit from the Main Control Room or the shrine.

Don't forget that there is also a shrine in the the first furnace
room (if you open it by turning the valve at the top of the
room), plus a hidden one in the Bilge Control tunnel (if you
have high enough Search).

In the map below, the columns represent where you are now, and
the rows are where you are trying to reach. It might seem the
wrong way around, but it is actually more practical this way.

The letters have the following meaning:
U = go up to the next junction
D = go down to the next junction
X = go across (take the path that maintains your height)
A number before a letter is a little bit of shorthand meaning
"do this N times". For example, 4D = DDDD.

Now you can amaze strangers with your expert knowledge of...
...The Pit!
